2019

Director’s Desk September 2020

We’re finally able to look back on the road we’ve walked since the outbreak of Covid-19 and, perhaps, to look forward with a little more optimism.

Six months ago, we couldn’t have imagined the twists and turns in the road ahead for the aftermarket industry. We couldn’t have imagined how our industry would look during the midst of hard lockdown, either.

Now, however, we’re in a position to look back – and, maybe, think about looking forward once more. Although our recent experiences have proved that there is no way of telling what lies before us, there are some certainties. We know, for instance, that the Right To Repair campaign is sure to receive added momentum from the publication of the Competition Commission’s guidelines. It’s interesting to see how other industries worldwide are addressing challenges and trends, and this formed the topic of discussion when the Right to Repair Global Coalition met recently.

We also know that the industry is unlikely to continue on what looked like a set path – so in this month’s newsletter, we examine some of the directions its new road may take.

We also introduce you to Bosch, one of the Top Tier sponsors of the Right To Repair, and discuss the advantages of the newly presented Spark26 catalogue – a truly useful tool for all members of the industry. A look at the accomplishments and challenges of the Free State/Northern Cape region in our monthly ‘region in the spotlight’ feature makes for further interesting reading.

Finally, as we enter the last quarter of a year that has tested us in every way, we look at some proven methods for keeping staff motivated.

We hope that you find it inspiring, too.

Pieter Niemand, MIWA National Director
