Women’s Workshop at D&T Servicing
With August declared Women’s Month, it was a fitting time to host another of our popular Women’s Workshops, this time at D&T Servicing. Guests got to learn about automotive products that can power their motoring experience, including LiquiMoly and Holts Tyreweld, and received training on how to choose quality products. Cliffie Jacobs and David Spenser-Higgs imparted important technical information while Teresa Spenser-Higgs helped educate attendees about why they should choose MIWA accredited workshops. Other highlights included spot prizes and lucky draws. As usual, the feedback was hugely encouraging, with guests commenting that they found the event enormously informative and noting that they felt empowered by the knowledge they gained.
Women’s Workshop at Pops Auto with motivational speaker, Bev Hancock
Women’s Month was also celebrated at Pops Auto in Gqerberha. Professional speaker and leadership expert Bev Hancock was invited to share her secrets to motivation and making your dreams come true; after which guests got the chance to boost their automotive knowledge with a presentation from the FRAM team, highlighting the benefits and application of the Holts Tyreweld emergency puncture repair system. They also learned about how to check oil, water, and brake fluid, and understand car warning lights. Thanks to Peter van Mosseveld, Midas, and FRAM for making the event possible.
RMI competition winner: Cliffie Jacobs
Congratulations to the winner of the RMI competition, Cliffie Jacobs. Cliffie says that he is a regular Automobil reader, which meant that he was well placed to enter – even though he didn’t think he would win. Although his days are typically jam-packed, he made sure to carve out a few moments to fill in competition entries – and his perseverance paid off! We hope you enjoy your prize, Cliffie!
Baxter Auto Services hosts a technical training workshop

Charles Baxter notes that he is dedicated to upskilling his staff, especially young members of the industry, so that they can gain the competence needed to advance the industry – “after all, they’ll be running our workshops one day,” he says.

Swedo-Tech Service sponsors three vehicles for HTS Louis Botha School
The District Skills Competition was held on the 5th of August 2023 at HTS Louis Botha School, with 240 participants in different specialisation streams. Swedo-Tech Service was asked to sponsor three vehicles for the learners to work on, which they did. This is a great way to get involved in the sector and to encourage a love for the sector with the youth. Congrats Swedo-Tech!
There were 33 learners and five teachers who participated in the automotive specialisation. Bruno Burri was also there on the day representing Swedo-Tech Service. He enjoyed watching how the learners and teachers were using their skills in the competition.

Festival of Motoring 2023, NAACAM Show 2023, and Automechanika Johannesburg 2023
Show time – And what a month it’s been. MIWA was out in force supporting the RMI stand at the Festival of Motoring at Kyalami. Thanks to Pieter, Wilma, Ray, Marcia, and everyone who did their bit to keep our MIWA flag flying high. If you were not able to make it we ran regular updates on Facebook for members. Our Facebook presence is really growing and we are so excited to see the pickup and number of likes and shares. If you are not following us already, please make a point of doing so – you won’t be disappointed.
Then this week we were off again to participate in the NAACAM Show in Sun Arena. Ray and Marcia were there to support.
And of course, next week is Automechanika at NASREC, where we will be hosting our conference. We’ll give you feedback next month.
