The Eastern Province Veteran Car Club is looking for a naming sponsor for the prestigious 2020 Milligan Trial Rally, now in its 51st year. This is a national event sanctioned by the South African Veteran and Vintage Association (SAVVA) and will next year take place on a route that will take the competitors from Port Elizabeth in a loop through the Eastern Cape and return to the finish in Port Elizabeth.
There will be more than 25 competitors driving vehicles that were manufactured prior to 1970, some from as early as the 1920’s.
This three-day event has drawn media coverage from most of the motoring magazines, local newspapers as well as national TV on the national newscasts. Daily reports on the day are done through crossovers to AlgoaFM and the use of social media is quite extensive. The organisers actively get involved with this aspect to promote the event, and work with the sponsors in order to ensure that they get the mileage that they would expect from such sponsorship.
The club magazine that comes out every second month goes to 300 members and is shared with other clubs and their members through South Africa. The sponsor will have free advertising in the magazine for a year, as well as on the Club’s Website. The programme and all merchandising will bear the sponsors branding. The vehicles will also have branding; however, this will be restricted to Glass, usually the top of the windscreen and chrome work, as old paintwork does not take kindly to modern stickers being applied.
Every second week, the club has displays on its lawn, and the idea is to have the sponsors’ banners around the lawn as well as on a Windsock up permanently. The sponsor would also have a free advertising board located in the busy Conyngham road. Most Car Clubs meet at the Eastern Province Veteran Car Club for their socials monthly.
“The sponsorship that we are looking for would be R150,000 for full naming rights for the event. If we cannot get a naming sponsor we would look into any monetary and or product value a company will be prepared to sponsor,” says Rodney Idris, Secretary of EPVV.
