A heartfelt congratulations to Motorsport SA, which was named winner of the FIA President’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award on 8 December 2023.
The award was granted to Motorsport SA in recognition of the body’s work with Daniel Pienaar Technical High School, the country’s oldest technical high school and the only school in the country to offer motorsport as an official sport. You will recall that this was the school where we held our last Motor Mech last year as part of their Tiger Festival.
Those taking part in the programme have enjoyed significant benefits: not only have they been exposed to the variety of roles that make up this sport (creating excitement around potential careers in the field); the programme has also encouraged participation from many female students as well as individuals from diverse backgrounds.
The impact of the initiative made it a winner out of 22 competitors, which were whittled down to nine finalists across a field of 44 projects. “We are extremely grateful for the recognition of our work. This award traditionally acknowledges an FIA member organisation’s commitment to activities that foster equitable, sustainable, and measurable change – and we’re very proud to say that our work with Daniel Pienaar High School fits this description,” concludes Anton Roux, President of Motorsport South Africa.
