Plans on track for Motor Mech

Building on the success of the 2022 show, plans for another highly successful 2023 Motor Mech show, to be hosted by the Motor Industry Workshop Association (MIWA) at Port Rex Technical High School in East London  are well on track.  The event will once again take place on Youth Day on the 16 June 2023 – a day specifically selected as a symbol of youth empowerment.  MIWA is a proud association of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI).

“Our aim is to attract future talent into the industry and really showcase the different career opportunities available in the automotive sector,” says Teresa Spenser Higgs, MIWA Vice Regional Chairperson for the Eastern Cape.

Spenser Higgs, who arranges the show with fellow MIWA Training Representative Cliffie Jacobs and Peter Van Mosseveld, RMI MIWA Representative for Eastern Cape, says that this year’s show will be no different to last year’s show where the response was overwhelmingly positive. “We will once again be proudly supported by RMI sister associations, TEPA and NADA and ARA, who will also take part in the event, displaying their parts and accessories and new vehicles respectively.

The main attraction will be the Junior Motor Mech Competition which always is hotly contested and attracts a lot of interest. “We really encourage participation in the competition from as many young people from the trade and technical high schools in the area,” she says.

We are confident there will also be a wide range of exhibitors ranging from parts suppliers and manufacturers to tool and garage equipment suppliers and aftermarket warranty specialists. “The presence of other industry stakeholders, like MerSeta, MISA and Motorhealth will also add interest to the day and all stalls will be highly interactive.”

“This really is such a great showcase to demonstrate our industry to high school students and show them what options are available after they leave school.  “We are passionate about this industry, from training, to quality parts, to graded workshops and working together to improve skills levels and customer experiences and are very excited to once again present this showcase to participants and the public,” she concludes.
